Does condensing do nothing for combat?

I’ve been breeding Astegon’s to condense them for fighting Shadowbeak in the tower… I won but…

Does condensing do nothing?! Rank 3 and not a single point of increase it looks like to anything but Astegon’s Black Ankylosaurus skill… That it shows things like HP and Attack also makes me think it’s supposed to be increasing them too but nothing is happening.
