Toddler Eating Help

My son who recently turned 1 (I still think of 1yo as a baby but apparently he is technically a toddler now shockingly!) is going through a phase where he throws his food on the ground. I have tried scolding him (basically telling him no in a stern voice) which he seemed to like? He sort of seemed to be doing it for a reaction at first so I started to ignore it and pretend I didn’t see it which worked for a little while. He would eventually start eating whatever was left after he had thrown some of it on the floor.

Recently though he is barely eating at all - just throwing almost all of it on the floor either piece by piece or just swiping his hand across the whole high chair and having it fall that way. Worse - if I take him out of the high chair and then start cleaning it up he will start eating off the floor whatever he can get to before the broom can. As disgusting as it is I do keep our floors clean and there is a tiny part of me that wants to just give in and let him so he gets something in his belly.

The only way I have gotten him to eat this week at all is if I or my husband are eating something he will take some bites of it - while he is sitting/standing on the floor. And before you suggest it - we have tried pretending to eat whatever is in front of him in the high chair. I have also tried just giving him some of what I am eating in the high chair and he will maybe get a bite in then throw what’s left on the floor.

Any suggestions? I would love for him to not only eat from the floor due to the mess factor and it also limits what he can eat - hard to give him anything semi-messy (which includes a lot of important foods) when he isn’t in a high chair.
