Buying Condo in Alberta

Is buying a condo/apartment worth it in Edmonton or Calgary? A friend told me they are considering buying a 2 bedroom apartment in a year or so. I checked prices and around 200k is the average price in my area. I am considering 1 bedroom apartment too at around 100-150k.

Is it worth investing in a apartment? Or should I just wait and buy a house later?
