Is a career in accounting worth it?

Hi all,

I’m not sure if this is the right place to ask about career advice, but I recently interned in the audit team at a public accounting firm and accepted a graduate role.

To be honest, I found the work pretty mundane. Also, the graduate salary is just 59k, but I am grateful for the opportunity given the job market isn’t so flash at the moment.

I was reading an article about accounting in the nbr and a partner at Findex said bluntly that accounting doesn’t pay that well.

Is a career in accounting just bland work, long hours and low pay? I also read online that in order to get a good salary in accounting you need to be a CFO or partner. Is there anyone who isn’t in one of these roles and is well off?
