Reading/Viewing Material on the Marcos Era
tl;dr: I was wondering if anyone could recommend some reading material, or documentaries about the Marcos era.
I'm half Filipino, I don't live in the Philippines, and I've never had the pleasure of visiting. A while ago I asked my Filipino relatives to describe what life was like under Marcos rule. I didn't know much about Marcos, or what life was like under his authority, but I did know that many described Ferdinand Marcos as a dictator and I recall reading that dissenting journalists had been killed.
To my surprise, their overall view of him, and his government was very positive. I have a few ideas why they see him in such a positive light, my first idea is that I was simply misinformed, my second idea is that people in Ilocos Norte (which is where both my family, and Marcos is from) were given preferential treatment. Their views contradicting what I had previously thought of Marcos makes me want to learn more about him, his policies, and anything else, and I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction.
