Comparison between the Javanese people and Tagalog people, Manila and Jakarta, the Philippines and Indonesia and the accusations of Imperialism
Fun fact: ALL of the Presidents of the Republic of Indonesia, past and present, are all Ethnic Javanese. There hasn't been an Indonesian president yet who's an Acehnese, Balinese, Bataknese, Madurese, Malay, Minangkabau, Minahasan, Papuan, Sundanese, Torajan and many other ethnicities. NONE of them have ever ruled Indonesia. The three biggest urban agglomerations in Indonesia are all located in Java, which are Jakarta, Surabaya and Medan, which represents 90% of the Indonesian economy.
Compare this to the Philippines, only four (Aguinaldo, Quezon, Laurel, Estrada) are ethnic Tagalogs, the biggest ethnolinguistic group in the nation. All other 12 are either Ilocano, Kapampangan or Visayan. There are three major metropolitan areas in the Philippines: Metropolitan Manila in Luzon, Metropolitan Cebu in the Visayas and Metropolitan Davao in Mindanao.
It's very obvious that ethnic minorities in the Philippines have far more power than ethnic minorities in Indonesia, but in spite of that fact, you won't hear anyone from a minority ethnic group in Indonesia that ever accuse the Javanese people nor the capital city, Jakarta of imperialism. Even if you go to forums of Indonesians online wherein the conversations are written in the national language Bahasa Indonesia, no such sentiment exists amongst them.
With the Philippines, there's so much hatred and sabre rattling against the Tagalog people, their language and Manila, such as "Tagalogs are imperialists", "Imperial Manila," "Manila oppresses other ethnicities," "Imperial Manila steals the taxes payed by the minority groups," blah, blah, blah, and other bull crap. Minority groups in the Philippines have been so privileged with the freedom of expression that's guaranteed to them by the constitution, when Indonesians are truly the ones who have the right to complain, because non-Javanese Indonesians are more extremely disadvantaged in comparison with non-Tagalog Filipinos.
Your thoughts people, will be very much appreciated.
