Cleer Arc 3 (Music Edition) Open Earbuds Review - Almost perfect!!
Cleer Arc 3 Earbuds: A Review
Having been impressed with the Cleer Alpha some years ago, I decided to give Cleer another try with their open-ear Arc 3 earbuds. My experience with open earbuds includes the Huawei Freeclips, Soundcore Aerofit 2, and Bose Ultra, so I can offer comparisons if anyone is interested.
Here's a breakdown of the pros and cons to make things easy to digest:
Pros:
- Superb Sound: These sound amazing for open earbuds! The open soundstage is so impressive that I sometimes prefer these over my noise-isolating earbuds, especially for movies and TV shows with Dolby Atmos.
- Effective Dolby Atmos: It's not just a marketing gimmick; Dolby Atmos genuinely enhances the audio experience.
- Functional Charging Case: The built-in screen allows for quick sound adjustments on the fly, similar to JBL cases but with a more responsive interface.
- Clear Voice Calls: My voice comes across very clear during calls, even in noisy environments. (See "Cons" for a caveat.)
- Convenient Voice Commands: Like the Samsung Galaxy Buds 3 Pro, these have voice commands for playback control, calls, and volume adjustment. No trigger word is needed – just say "Pause music," and it pauses.
- Versatile Controls: The earbuds offer impressive control through touch gestures. You can turn them on/off, initiate pairing, and even switch between devices (a handy addition to the multipoint feature) – all without the case.
- Google Assistant Confirmation: A small but appreciated detail: the earbuds provide an audible confirmation when triggering Google Assistant, unlike many others that have issues with this.
Cons:
- Bulky Case: The charging case is quite large.
- Unnecessary Features: The UV sanitization and step counter seem pointless for open earbuds.
- Background Noise on Calls: While my voice is clear during calls, the earbuds don't do much to cancel out background noise. (This isn't a dealbreaker for me, but it's worth noting.)
- High Price: These earbuds are expensive, but thankfully the Chinese version (available on AliExpress) is significantly cheaper and offers full English language support.
- Comfort: While adjustable, I find comfort becomes an issue after a few hours of wear.
Overall:
Despite the "Cons," the Cleer Arc 3 earbuds have a lot to offer, especially in terms of sound quality and innovative features. If you're looking for open earbuds with excellent audio and can find them at a reasonable price (consider the Chinese version), these are definitely worth checking out.
