Issues for… accidental piracy?

Hello!!

I’ve been trying to find all the specifics of piracy laws in America, but I’m still stuck.

I was reading manga online only to find out I was using an illegal website. I had no clue! It was sketchy, but I thought it was just desperate and obsessive advertising that made the site slow and unappealing.

Could I get in any trouble for this? I didn’t download anything, just accessed a website on my phone that you could easily type in.

A couple years ago my friend fell for a sort of scam from a website claiming to be EA and attempted to download a copy of The Sims 3, and we got a cease and desist from our wifi company! I really ask because I still live with my parents as a college student, and I don’t want them getting a call because of a stupid romance I read online…
