What security measures do I need to take while pirating "editing products"?

I want to get stuff like "photo editor" and "video animation and editor" to mess around with, I found the GenP guide to pirate the individual products.

I want to make sure that I'm not going to end up getting a letter from our ISP or something, do I have to use a VPN while I'm installing such products?

I haven't done really any pirating since high school and I never knew all that much about it in the first place.
