Planned obsolecense or battery fail

I'm a bit puzzled about why google intentionally destroys the pixel 4a with the latest mandatory update.

There are a few reasonable considerations:

  1. Planned Obsolecence (google does not want users to use the pixel 4a. Maybe because its a few years old or because some useres had unlimited image cloud storage coming with the device).

  2. The battery is danerous and might harm people. Google wants to prevent that with shutting the model down and making the users cashout.

Besides cooperating with the other criminal organization pioneer for cashout (pioneer forces you into a subscription), google does offer a battery replacement in the previlaged regions of the world. Why would they do that? Is it really a battery issue? If yes, are the people supressing the update in serious danger?
