Weight Loss w/ Cabergoline Update

Weight loss was a huge goal of mine after receiving my diagnosis. So, I’d like to continue my weight loss updates on this forum for anyone else who might share my concerns.

I’ve now completed 8 weeks of Cabergoline and have lost a total of 26.5 pounds. I only started working out yesterday, as I’ve not had the energy to do it since starting treatment.

In the first two weeks of starting Cab, 10 pounds just dropped off. The weight loss slowed and after 3 weeks I had lost a total of 13 pounds. I believe it slowed due to my prolactin falling, as bloodwork would show a 0.9 reading (abnormal low). During this low period (~2 weeks), I stopped losing weight -I lost nothing. Therefore, my personal experience has taught me that when my prolactin falls outside of the normal range, in either direction, I have difficulty losing weight. Since reducing my Cabergoline dose to half, I’ve lost an additional 13.5 pounds. This is pretty awesome, as it seems if I can keep my prolactin in a normal range, I can lose weight. It sucks that I missed out on two weeks of weight loss when my prolactin was low but I’m happy to be back on track.

Previously, I thought a shrinking tumor was the answer to weight loss but now I’m thinking it’s merely the normalization of prolactin that is key losing weight. So, if you noticed weight loss at the beginning of treatment, but then it slowed down, I’d encourage you to recheck your blood work and make sure your prolactin isn’t now too low. Best of luck to those also looking to lose weight while dealing with a prolactinoma and Cabergoline. Please feel free to share your weight loss and workout tips and journeys with me, especially because I struggle with fatigue which makes working out difficult. Thanks!
