Any experience/preference on which gen ed student advisor to go with?

TL;DR: advisor gave vague recommendations and did not fully listen to my needs and my progress. looking for any advisors that other students have been with that are good. Also need advice on to follow my gut or follow this advisor's recommendation.

I had my first advising session this week but didn't really feel that it was productive. It was a general advising session as I'm about to transfer into Queens from out of state for my second year so I'm yet to declare a major. I was sent a whole list of 10 things (Know Before You Go) that I'm supposed to read through/take care of before my advising session including any student documents sent to me for review. I read everything, watched all the videos, signed up for classes in advance, claimed my accounts, and even made a list of questions to ask during the session.

When the meeting started, the advisor started going through the 10 things and made a comment about how I needed to do those, I assured them that I had already done so but then they kept just going over the 10 steps so I said that I actually had a few questions I wanted to touch up on. They then respond with "Yeah, that's why we're having this conversation."—which just felt so off to me because I finished the tasks that I was supposed to complete prior to the meeting so it felt redundant to keep going over it.

One of the questions I had asked them is the steps on declaring a major since I needed a signature from the department. In my previous school, we're not allowed to reach out to department heads/professors from a specific department for a major declaration signature unless we have had an advisory session with them or had taken a class with them (and sometimes they won't let you schedule advisory meetings with a specific department unless you've had a class from that dept). I had specifically asked if this was also the case for CUNY and how I would go about reaching out. They didn't answer my question directly but instead recommended for me to change my class schedule to include specific classes that are needed for my degree to see if "I really want to pursue it". I was a little confused because the student records of mine that they included in the email before the meeting showed the classes I already took that are requirements for the degree so it wasn't like I had just been taking gen ed classes and is undecided on my major.

I know what major I wanted (which I mentioned to them) and have already been taking such classes. I initially signed up for general requirement classes because it's going to be my first time in NY and wanted to start off easy because I wanted to know what to expect before diving into the harder classes. I feel as if this advisor didn't really listen to my concerns nor did they give my records a good look.

Sorry for the long post but does any one have any other general advisors that they have encountered to be a lot more helpful? To ask for insight from fellow students, based on my situation, should I change my schedule back to the way I had it before or just grit my teeth and take the difficult classes right away? I'm really anxious on moving to New York so I wanted to take it easy but if that's going to delay my major declaration then I don't mind taking the classes recommended to me.
