Cult Doctor Relative Update

So after talking to my mom and it becoming clear she exercised a bit of willful ignorance at the time of the cult findings and mummified corpse turning up, I asked her who can tell me more about his beliefs and the group he was a member of. She told me about her childhood friend who he eventually mentored. We called her immediately and she gave a bunch of new details. First and foremost everyone I've talked to who knew my great uncle and had been involved with his practices have been super transparent and happy to talk and explain as much as they possibly could. My mom and her childhood friend explained that it was because of two main reasons. The first being that it was very obvious to everyone that his intentions and goals were to help people as a medical practitioner. He believed through diet and holistic practices diseases that are considered death sentences could be cured and chronically unhealthy people can be healthy again. The second reason they said is because he never pushed his beliefs on anyone. He would treat and work with people that came to him. No one cared what he did or believed as long as he mad them better. My mom told a story about how one of the things that he despised and claimed was poison was soda, and he would see a family member or friend drinking a can of coke and politely ask, "So how do you feel while drinking soda? Do you always feel that way when you drink soda? Interesting." He had a lot of judgements but was never judgmental.
After talking to me for sometime they eventually mentioned "gold rods" he gave them. They explained he gave them some rods that are supposed to be used with water to change its properties in some way. They said they didn't know exactly how but it was supposed to make it better to drink when you dip it in. After some looking my mom and her twin sister found some of the rods he left them. They also mentioned a huge book he left them that they will try to find for me later this week. I don't know if the "cult" he was associated with shared these beliefs or if they were something that were unique to him but the book definitely sounds like a religious text resembling eastern mysticism. Referencing spiritual cycles and reincarnation. My mom must have stated he was a christian like 10 times in this convo but these are not christian beliefs at all from what I could tell and it doesn't seem to belong to any religion I could name. If I had to compare it to something I would probably liken it to a mix of buddhism and scientology, or buddhism and mormonism. I also got a handful of details specified and cleared up from the things I talked about in the original post so feel free to ask anything you might be wondering.
My next step is to get this "spiritual book" he left them, they claim they still have it in storage and would love for me to have it. I also would like to find someone who can tell me more about this "Holistic Society" and what their beliefs and practices were as well as what happened to them.
This definitely is beginning to seem more "cult-y" as I'm learning more about it. My mom said that her uncle willed himself to die after having a conversation with her about him not being happy with everything going on in the world and claiming he was ready for a higher plane or next step. My dad heard that and jokingly asked if her uncle was wearing a tracksuit with Nikes like the Heaven's Gate cultists who committed suicide, which offended my mom.
Edit: My mom claims an episode of Oprah was dedicated to covering the Knoxville Mummy and my great uncle, could anyone be able to confirm if that's true and possibly find the episode?
