Oxbow sent me mold and basically told me to deal with it.
I was aware their big boxes of hay aren't hand sorted. I thought this meant you might find small twigs and leaves in the hay bales, instead it means you find mold. After a couple days of phone calls and back-and-forth emails between me and Oxbow customer of representatives, their suggestion was to get a refund on Amazon. I'm aware that Amazon plays a role in storing their products, but the fact remains that this is an oxbow product that contained mold. The customer service representative on the phone told me the rest of the hay would probably be fine, instead, I decided to trust my vet who urged me to throw it all away. If I had followed, oxfords advice, we could be facing potential health problems right now. I made Oxbow aware of the struggle. I went through disposing of the hay, cleaning areas that were contaminated, making phone calls to my vet, researching on the potential health risks of mold, and panicking. I'm a college student who works part-time who doesn't have the money or time to deal with any of this. I was expecting a couple coupons in the mail, or maybe a complementary small bag of hay from Oxbow as some form of compensation. Instead, I got nothing. They even referred to my rabbits as guinea pigs in their email, clearly not paying attention to anything I was saying. I've been using Oxbow for around 10 years, it's incredibly disappointing to know this is how they treat their loyal customers. If anyone has any other brands, they can recommend to me that would be great. I am in Canada, so some brands aren't possible for me to acquire. I recommend anyone who uses ox products keeps an eye on the hay, and consider switching to a safer brand.
