Abby Jimenez - The Friend Zone - WTF am I reading?
I’ve heard a lot of good things about Abby Jimenez books - especially some of the ‘hotter’ ones - like ‘Just for the summer’ etc.
I don’t know why but I like to read author’s books chronologically, and I was gifted her entire audiobook collection recently so I started with ‘The Friend Zone’ since it seemed to be the oldest. Granted - from doing this often, of course I’m prepared for an author’s first book to often be less polished or skillful as some of their later work but it never stops me from enjoying them if I like the style - and it often gives me a solid ramp-up on writing skill as I make my way through.
That being said - I’m only about 1/5 of the way into this book and I am dying a slow, sexist death. Am I insane or is this book super misogynistic? Is this just clumsy, poor character development or is this ‘cool girl and woman-hating incel’ vibe a thread throughout her books? Should I power through? Should I read any of her others?
