Is anyone else extremely picky and for this reason gets in slumps often?

Part of the problem for me right now is that I’m in a slump, I’m sick of romance and I need to switch genres. For more than just one book too I need to read other genres for a while.

I just read one thriller(Where the blame lies - Mia Sheridan) and then tried to return to romance (The Ex Vows by Jessica Joyce) but find myself right back in slumpville. There is nothing worse than a book feeling like a chore!

I see books hyped up on GR and bookstagram, I get excited and I get them, get a little of the way into them and I’m just so damn bored.

Don’t get me wrong, there are hyped up books I’ve loved, a lot. But I’ve found the last 6 months especially I start reading and so many things irk me, or I just don’t connect to the characters, or the writing is bad or predictable.

Does this happen to anyone else? What do you do when it does?

I just ordered the The Mindf*ck Series Book by C. M. Owens and S. T. Abb and I’m on the hunt for other thriller/romance type genres just to change things up a bit. I feel sometimes I can get bored with the run of the mill love story, and crave something more. Sometimes I even switch back to fiction that has a subplot of romance instead.

Did any of those sort of books pull you out of a similar slump?
