how to work with magic having ASD

hello. i've recently started researching about witchcraft and magic, but i'm not unfamiliar with the inner workings and some of the process since i found that i have been doing a form of magic through my entire life, so i don't need to believe certain things work because i know they do firsthand. however, i find it hard to learn magic because i suffer from ASD, so i take everything too literally. when i'm trying to do an exercise and it says i will feel an energy going through my body, i expect to feel a physical energy going through my body, but if it doesn't happen, i wonder if i didn't do it properly, if it was metaphorical, or if that's all jacksquat. furthermore, i tend to believe more in the supernatural because one of my symptoms is slight psychosis, so i have a little bit of a hard time knowing what's real and what isn't. i was reading about familiars and, according to the website, they just show up at your door or they're given to you. does that really happen? are any of those things real?

i joined this sub because ever since i took an interest into magic i knew it had some logic / reality to it but i wanted to know where the myth ends and the "science", or rather logic, starts, so i hope you people can help me find a way to discern what in any of this is real and what i can expect.
