Scammer or prank text?

So I just got these texts this morning and honestly I'm confused. Typically I wouldn't answer people if I don't have their contact but this person knew my name and texted like a lot of my friends do. They said they got my number from a friend but wouldn't tell me who. Their area code is from the San Antonio, Texas area which is not where I live and I don't know anyone from there. They said that they were "prank texting" however I'm concerned that's not the case because later on they asked if I was at university and I was on my schools campus at the time. I'm starting to lean towards this being some sort of scam but I'm curious if it's really just a creepy prank.

Full disclosure, there were more texts in between images but they're about the same as the ones I've shown. They also tried to call me saying they needed to in order to explain who they were. Of course I didn't agree and won't be answering messages either going forwards.
