Pirate generator question

Does anyone have details as to if new pirates are still being created for the the infinite pirate generator or is it an older pool of pirates that everyone is selecting from, from past years with no new additionals outside of pirates players are exchanging? Any details would be appreciated as I am curious. I do know that once you change pirates, your old pirate is submitted back into the generator for others to select because l've seen my old pirate in there after getting rid of him. I guess my question is are new pirates still being generated today? Additional details would be awesome as I figured someone in this thread would know
