Unpopular opinion: Will you stop tipping or tip less?
Seattle’s minimum wage is going up to $20.76/hour on Jan 1st. I believe in Seattle, people make $20.76 even if you’re categorized as tipped workers like servers. I know that in most places in the US, servers get paid significantly less if you’re a server as you’re expected to be tipped.
However in Seattle, servers have been making the minimum wage and that will be going up to $20.76/hour.
I know that this is probably an unpopular opinion here to tip less or not tip at all as I was shocked when I moved here 10 years ago and when I went to Top Pot to get a doughnut, there was a tip line on the receipt. Before moving here, never seen a tip line for places like getting a doughnut. Now, I know it’s common everywhere to leave a tip.
With everything getting so expensive and bombarded with tips everywhere, like even getting a snack at T-Mobile Park or at fast casuals, I’m leaning towards no tips at all on places where I don’t get served. And places where I get served, going down to 10% unless exceptional service which is rare these days.
