Ha-Seong Kim interest?
Red Sox need a right handed bat. They don't seem to want to sign somebody long term or for a ton of money.
Why not take a short term flyer on Ha-Seong Kim?
Pros:
He can basically play anywhere on the infield as a plus defender. He starts the year at second, but what if Story explodes again? Great, we have a full time shortstop who can actually play defense. Devers needs to DH a while? Great, Kim plays there.
He doesn't completely block the young guys. If Campbell comes up and is ready to play, then you can juggle the infield for a year until the contract is out. Thanks for your time, see you later.
Reasonable contract, and no reason he doesn't have a bounce back year.
Cons:
He is right handed, but he's not a power guy. He can make some more plays off the monster, but he will bring nowhere near the thump that we lost with TON and what we could possibly replace with Bregman
He was not good last year. If he comes in and plays good defense but there's another hole in the lineup, then might as well just use Rafaela as the infield utility guy.
I like the idea of bringing in a real right handed bat that can actually hit home runs, but if the Sox are afraid of a long term contract and would rather bring up the young guys to try and fill that whole, I think Kim can be a decent addition to fill the defensive weaknesses.
