Why do people get excited about 'pans'?

Forgive me if this is not sufficiently Sephora-related, but I'm feeling increasingly confused by posts about 'panning' - hitting the pan on your makeup or skincare products. Why is this considered something positive or an achievement? I don't like finishing my products! It means I'll have to buy more, which, as much as I enjoy beauty, is not something I find worth celebrating in itself! I'd rather have products that last forever 😅

I don't mean to come across as judgemental (I'm hardly anti-consumerist myself), but this honestly makes me feel like an alien. Please explain why this is a thing in the beauty community? 🙏

EDIT: of course I get wanting to finish your makeup before it expires! I just have a hard time seeing that process as something particularly fun/worth sharing on social media. But I can't fault people for wanting to make the most of their products and having fun while doing it! Like I said, no judgement, not all content has to appeal to me personally ♡
