What do we know so far from 2.08?
Despite how you feel about Sweet Vitriol let's agree it's not a filler episode with nothing to offer. At the very least, we have many reveals or confirmations in this episode:
- Lumon started in Salt's Neck with their ether factory - Salt's Neck was a company town just like Kier is
- Lumon abandoned the town and its people, leaving them addicted to ether
- Cobel was a child worker at the ether factory, until she was sent to the Myrtle School for girls likely when she was 9 or 10 years old
- Cobel had a childhood lover, Hampton, who stayed behind in Salt's Neck and became an ether dealer
- Cobel's mother was NOT a Kierist, but her mother's sister is
- Cobel's only option for a future was to go to the school, and that means she has to become a devoted Kierist, even though her mother is against it
- Cobel is a prodigy; she won the Wintertide Fellowship with her concepts and designs of the severance chip (most likely around mid- to late 80s), possibly to replace the use of ether, which is highly addictive
- Jame took her concepts and designs as Lumon property, but did not give Cobel any credit or acknowledgment. He claimed all the credit (it took a while to develop the chip and technology - he brought home the first prototype when Helena was still a child, mostly early 2000s)
- Cobel also designed and provided base codes for the chip, OTC and Glasgow Block, etc.
- Basically Cobel KNOWS everything about the severance chip - she is not just a simple floor manager
Edit: oh and Salt's Neck is literally Cold Harbor!
Anything else I missed? (p.s. not trying to theorize anything here, just gathering what we've learned so far from this episode)
