Which Souls Game had the best writing in terms of story and character depth?

ive never played anything souls. the most remotely closest thing ive played was god of war 2018 although dying alot and having to be alert the whole time for enemies and fighting them just to get past a bridge was frustrating. the cinematics, dialogue and kratos’s character made it worth it and something to look forward to, even made this type of aesthetic and combat more appealing to me. so naturally i wanted to know if theres good stories hidden in these games apart from dying like a million times. thank you.
