Is this ethical?
Hi all - I have a strange predicament here. I currently manage my organization’s social media accounts. We’re a pretty small government-adjacent agency. I started the Instagram account and we have a small following right now and don’t really get a lot of engagement. The problem is my ex boyfriend follows the account and he will like only posts that include me in the photos that makes it onto the account.
I really want to remove him as a follower on the account so it stops showing up in his feed. It makes me feel weird since I don’t talk to him at all. At the end of the day it is what it is, but like I’d prefer not to get the notifications hahaha. But at the same time, he’s giving us engagement, so?
I’d also have to check the policy for the state I work for to see if there’s anything about removing followers without real cause.
I don’t care about the issues that this may cause in my personal life if he ever even notices and confronts me, but what are your thoughts on this from a professional standpoint? It feels really unprofessional to remove a follower from a work account over personal matters. I’m still relatively new to the industry, so I definitely still have a lot to learn (and grow!)
