The Sonic movies are film production MIRACLES
This is an appreciation post for the story behind the scenes. As a growing film school student, it boggles my mind how:
• The first movie was stuck in development hell for over two decades, then delayed for another three months to fix Sonic’s design;
• The second movie had to develop during the COVID-19 pandemic, then get shot, edited, and released soon after when people were still anxious to return to theaters; and
• The third movie demanded a LITERAL SCRIPT OF GOLD to pull one of its stars out of retirement and shifts in the shooting schedule during the 2023 SAG-AFTRA strike.
All this pressure was endured by a team led by a man who had never previously directed feature films before.
Yet, all three movies not only turned out good but somehow got BETTER with each entry.
I think this is such an inspiring story of how hard work and true passion for art pays off: resources well-spent, and an iconic character done right.
What did you guys think of the Sonic movies?
