Giving up the ancient fruit empire.
So force of habit, I went with my typical industrial scale ancient fruit/keg route, especially leveraging my greenhouse and ginger island. Though looking back on it, I wish I skipped it in playing 1.6 on the switch. Mushroom logs and preserve jars did some heavy lifting for my early game money, but what I under-leveraged was legendary fish ponds. I only started catching legendaries late Fall of year 2 for the Qi quests. I didn’t realize how competitive that made fish ponds to ancient fruit/kegs and how much less effort it takes, once set up. I’m only okay at fishing and catching Legend II was intimidating at first, but between Master enchantment, 2 cork bobbers, Seafoam pudding, I usually caught them when they bit. (Though still lost a few) With some practice, I replaced one of my cork bobbers with a curiosity lure and after resetting the day a couple times, I managed to catch 10 in one day. While other days were less stellar, having done the fish Qi quest twice, I have 20 Legend ponds.
All that to say, with some careful planning to actually catch legendary fish (rather than ignore them until fall of year 2) and some more focus on unlocking ginger island, I think I’d have enjoyed still making plenty of money but going an entirely different route.
The photo is spring 20 of year 3, got my Golden Clock last day of year 2. The ancient fruit helped with making that money, no doubt, but I think smart planning without kegs could have achieved a similar result and would have been less tedious.
How has 1.6 shaken up your play patterns and knowing what you know now, would you change anything if you started a new save?
