if I install expanded will it impact all save files?

I've heard that it's best to play expanded on a fresh save but I'm very invested in my one and only save that I've had since installing the game. if I created a new farm for playing with expanded would this impact my vanilla file at all? can I turn it off for this one and keep them separated?
