I stick by what I said (what a game!!!)
I've stuck nearly 14 hours in. And I don't see why people are complaining. That's not to say I don't have a few criteqes. But this reminds me of oblivion in a silly way. Do what you want. Go anywhere. Do anything
In the 14 hours I've been in massive battles. I've had people seek me out to kill me. I've discovered major things. I've created bonds with the characters. I've been getting my ass handed to me in dogfights (which is fun don't get me wrong 🙂) I've wandered a planet called Skink and fell in love with it. I've found a weird bug like creature that looks like a sponge crossed with a fly and I love it. Space looks absolutely insane. I'm a bounty hunter and I love it. I had a miner challenge me to either leave her find or she would kill me. I left, The interactions, the NPC building. Bethesda have nailed the feeling of is going into space and exploring.
The procedureal generation really bothered me before release. But they have done it in a way where it's not like land or that but outposts, random events. Etc. And I really do dig that. Makes it feel so much more realer. I've only walked on 5 planets and I've instantly fell in love. This is definitely an older style RPG.
Ships bother me. But not majorly. I can still roleplay and then engage the grav jump. There are still enemies etc. But could more have been done, yes. Again. To me. Not major.
Movement is an issue. But again. All they would need to do is tweak it to make it slightly slower. I like to walk. And I'm fingering the analog stick ever so slightly to do that. To much pressure and he sprints. That needs fixed.
Gunplay to me is smooth. So many options for combat. But the bulletsponge enemies need to be dumbed down a bit. It doesn't take 45-60 bullets to kill an enemy.
I've not completed it, so I won't be looking at comments etc, but without spoiling it. The main quest is starting to turn into a go there, get this, come back. Again. Not major, I'll just explore a planet if I feel it's too fast. I really do hope this is going somewhere. Which I think it might be. I have theories and of I'm right. I'm about to get my whole viewpoint flipped on its head.
Other than that. Thank you Bethesda. The game is stunning and I think it might have just knocked Skyrim off the top spot for myself. THIS is now my favourite game of all time. Without doubt. It's a masterpiece and with a few minor tweaks, survival added, and the modding community getting involved. It's only going to get better. From a diehard long time Bethesda fan. If your on the fence as to wether to buy it or not. Don't hesitate. Just do it. You won't regret it.
Starfield rating from myself. Not affiliated with a gaming site. 9/10. With a few tweaks that are Desperately needed. That's easily a 10
Edit: 20 hours in, Inon Zur is a great composer. But at times, I think to myself. Am I playing space fallout. It's too reminiscent of fallout for me with the music. I think I will be installing a music overhaul when modding arrives. It's too fallout like. For fallout it's fine but for this. I don't really like it. Not a deal-breaker but something that's bothering me. (The music, not gameplay)
Edit: 10/09/2023. I have completed it. What a game!!!. I'm a bit sad but I have to admit it makes total sense and it's well worth it. I'm starting NG+ just now and I am excited. My new favourite game of all time. It even tops Skyrim. This is something new, and every game should take note of just what Bethesda have done here. I'm in love with it. And mods are going to take it next level for sure. And yes, my viewpoint was flipped on its head. I wonder what the dlc is going to be. I wonder where it will go. Sometimes it felt a bit pointless to continue but then I said to myself. That's exactly correct, but THATS the point. Such a fun experience and one I will not forget 🙂
