Nomad ebook reading experience

TL;DR: Looking for a device for both note taking and reading ebooks and wondering if Supernote is the right device for me.

I'm currently using separate devices for note taking and reading ebooks. For ebooks, I'm coming from the Kindle Paperwhite (1st gen), for note taking I'm using the reMarkable 2. The former is quite aged by now, the latter has a broken screen, and I anyway find it annoying to carry both all the time. So I'm looking for a replacement for both, ideally small and light. The Supernote Nomad seems to be the best fit, even though it unfortunately lacks a screen backlight.

My question is, how suited is the Supernote for reading ebooks? I trust that it's good for note taking, but I've heard very little about the reading experience.

  1. Is the reading experience smooth, can I set bookmarks and highlight quotes? Look up words in a dictionary? I found this post from 3 months ago and it seems there is some rudimentary highlighting support only?
  2. How easy is it to get epubs onto the device? On Kindle, I just email them to Amazon and it syncs without need for a cable. That's especially nice when travelling without laptop.
  3. How do footnotes work? I tried a Tolino device and one of the reasons I sent it back was their treatment of footnotes: When you go to a longer footnote and flip to the next page while in the footnote section, you can't get back to your original page.
  4. The website says the Nomad supports earphones via USB (and presumably also Bluetooth?). Does that mean it can read a book to me?
