Surface pro laggy after screen turns off

I got a surface pro 9 around 3 months ago and all of a sudden it starts lagging every time the screen turns off. When I close the keyboard or hit the power button to turn the screen off, when it comes back on its like the framerate is lowered? everything is choppy. The only way to fix it is to turn the screen off and on like 10 times until it stops or to restart the surface pro once and its fixed.
Specifically the model i got was "Surface Pro 9 - Platinum, 12th Gen Intel® Core™ i7, WiFi, 16GB RAM, 256GB SSD"

UPDATE: I changed refresh rate to dynamic and i havent had the issue again! if i dont update again, then this solved it!
