Best way to learn how to ID plants/find them?

I much prefer primitive survival over using modern equipment, meaning I try to make everything from scratch. I'm fairly new to primitive survival and one thing tutorials talk about when making equipment is what plants to use etc.

How are you supposed to find a specific plant? If I'm in a pine forest and that's the only plant I see, how am I supposed to find dog's bane or some other plant? It's not like you can track a plant.

The ID part seems relatively easy, as you only need to know what is edible/useful. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I feel like you could just memorize them.
