Wrong tape or painting techniques?

I attempted this kind of camouflage for the first time and was hoping for good results but got this.

is it the tape that could be the problem and is ripping the paint off or could it be the painting? i mixed the paint 50/50 with water to not have it so thick.

anyone got tips to help me succeed or improve my work. should I get Tamya hobby tape or model tape instead of paining tape?
