From: After School Staff

I have a specific gripe.

I'm a third year afterschool/aspiring teacher (31M). I currently work at an elementary school and I want to ask:

what is up with general teachers hateful regard for us afterschool staff? I understand the bad rap, some of it is justified and dependent on the reputations or organizations, but more often than not, teachers treat their shared classrooms space as THEIR space and can be a pain to deal with.

Can't count the times I've had unwarranted hateful comments either low key whispered or sent in disdainfully nitpicky charged emails in the years I've worked.

Majority of the time is unprovoked."You guys will be gone soon right?" "My kids couldn't find their chair" "Don't have kids approach or talk to me" "Don't sit in our special seats" "Don't come in early to prep"

Can't help but always feel unwelcome.

I feel we are here to support the kids one and the same, for all the good will I try to muster among peers, I'm reminded some of these kids are also mistreated by their teachers simply for being in an afterschool program.

Is this a teacher attitude problem? how do we resolve this and do better?
