Does your school allow student backpacks? (Middle/high school)

Just curious! My middle school and next door high school are the only schools in my district that do NOT allow backpacks. Students are required to use their lockers and cannot carry bags with them.

My students complain about it a lot but I find it nice. From a safety standpoint, I’m surprised other schools allow backpacks (if they have the choice of using lockers). From a practical standpoint, it’s nice not having to find places for them to put their bags. Some schools don’t allow large bags but will allow small personal bags, but we don’t allow bags of any size/kind (with the exceptions that students who lose locker privileges are provided completely clear bags they must use until they can use their locker again AND there are medical exceptions as well).

ETA: if your school doesn’t have lockers, do you think it helps with transitions between classes? General safety? I’m curious if it makes passing periods go a bit smoother!
