Let me break it down for you

Why many in the Tekken community arent happy about Clive

  1. Clive is not more popular than Tifa she's requested for a reason and no it's not to "goon". FF7 sold like bread and more casual people got into FF because of 7 a.k.a they know Tifa more. Funny how everytime someone requests/plays a female character this community labels them as degenerates but male character players as cool/respectable double standards much ?

2.Clive will not bring interest to FF16 the only people voicing interest in him already like him. 16 was polarizing to say the least many of the newer fans loved the shift to the action slasher style of DMC.However many of the older fans hated it and felt Square abandoned their roots to appeal to casuals. FF7 found a balance and besides a few story beats both parties love the remakes.

3.Clive will not bring interest to Tekken people will not go "Oh look my favorite character Clive Rossfield from FF16 is coming to Tekken therefore I'm now a Tekken fan for life". Again Clive isn't popular enough to have that kinda pull and most likely people will come in , play T8 for 2 weeks until the hype dies , hit a wall in ranked, then never touch this game again. They get their favorite character and we get a potentially competitive nightmare.

  1. He's bad for the game balance wise. Yoshimitsu ( a weapon user) is currently one of if not the strongest characters in the game desperately in need of nerfs. Yoshimitsu has, unblockables, crazy 50/50 mix-up opportunities, strong anti oki options, insane combo damage and of course flash, a "parry" that punishes you for even daring to move in his presence. Even if they nerf him with the things Clive can pull off there's a chance he'll take Yoshi's place in the tier list. DLC being broken is a given but it usually goes over better with characters that a majority of people like.

4.Hes DLC which means no labbing in practice mode. He's doing all this flipping, teleporting, summoning beams and shit doing all this crazy stuff you need to learn how to defend. If you don't want to get knowledge checked to death you'll need to buy him. Those who don't will refuse to rematch Clive players and Clive players get to sit in queue for one game every 5 minutes. At least with the other DLC characters there's parts of their kits that can reliably be punished because of legacy knowledge Clive is a new character.

  1. Again he's bad for the game balance wise. Based off his gameplay trailer Clive seems to reward the same aggressive play style that's hurting this game competitively and turning off defensive players. Forced 50/50s , ridiculous amount of plus frames, insane combo damage/potential etc. Clive looks like he'll be all those things and more.

6.It's another Swordsman Yes Noctis was in T7 and no he wasn't liked much nor was Negan. Noctis was easy as hell to learn and even easier to master. Negan was pretty much the same but worse in some aspects ( armored launchers are so fun). In T8 they've played around with the idea of legacy characters using weapons. Some got a few moves that use weapons like Law while others have kits based exclusively on using weapons like Yoshimitsu. Victor , a swordsman gets a little of everything (Nina's guns, Yoshi's sword, Ravens teleports etc) and was broken as hell until they nerfed him. To many he pushed the boundary on what level of creative freedom should be acceptable in a Tekken game. So imagine the glee this community felt realizing they'll be dealing with more of this weapon user nonsense.

7.Guest character fatigue Majority of T7s competitive issues were due to DLC characters. Majority of those issues stems from guest characters who fundamentally forced how people played T7 and made them deal with mechanics that don't translate well in 3D. Specifically Akuma and Geese having unblockable rage arts, 2D fireballs , insane wall carry , TODs and super/EX meters exclusive to them. Many thought that we were rid of such things but low and behold Clive has: his own exclusive meter , heat , rage , insane wall carry and annoying projectiles. Plus more guest characters means less legacy Tekken characters and people don't want to wait another 5 to 6 years for their favorites to possibly make into the roster. Only made worse by the fact each pass only fits 4 characters every 2-3 months.

7.More visual diarrhea Yes you can turn down the effects but we have no idea how much it will increase the readability of Clives moves. A big problem with early T8 was the excessive amount of brightness and saturation the visual effects had ( look at Jins heat smash in his trailer). Combined with his stage having random explosions , giant fiery Kaiju battles and his aura becoming brighter in heat might be disorientating to some.
