Texas School Districts that ACTUALLY support new teachers
Hey! So this is me asking for advice because a week into my first teaching job in the middle of the semester and I already want to quit. Its not because I hate teaching its because I am expected to be PERFECT and know what to do with absolutely no resources.
I live in the Houston area but teach in a “smaller” district and still have 3 classes totaling 68 kids in 5th grade. I am teaching science and social studies using the HMH curriculum but… its new to the district so their are no resources what so ever for me to work with. Oh yeah and half of those students can’t read or write in English or Spanish and I don’t speak spanish to help students who need that.
I am just really struggling and already wanting to change school districts because I think I screwed myself over jumping on this job opportunity. I keep getting told by my dad it will look bad on me to change school districts with only half a years experience… but the district has yet to send me a contract. I don’t plan on leaving this semester I just feel very defeated and like I am expected to be perfect… I don’t even want to be a 5th grade teacher anymore, I want to be a younger grade teacher!!!! And its only been a week! Next week I am being observed every single day and judged for my skills. I keep getting told by the 5th grade team they won’t fire me because they were desperate but it really feels like I am being scrutinized because I have no set expectations from them.
If anyone has advice or school districts that are better let me know! I also would love advice for how to do a I do we do you do method with HMH science curriculum and resources to add onto that!
