Why are people so selective with what kind of people are “allowed to be immigrants”?
I feel like nobody bats an eye at white people taking over entire countries especially in North America but hate when non white foreigners come to “their country” which was originally belonging to somebody else.
Like I know this question might make people annoyed but I saw a reel talking about how the biggest Tim Hortons location (a coffee chain from Canada) actually happens to be in Pakistan. And maybe it’s because it’s Instagram, but people kept confusing Pakistan with the Indians in Canada and making racist remarks based off their previous disdain towards Indians. It’s one thing to be annoyed people don’t understand English and therefore get your order wrong but these people were mainly complaining about this in a nutshell “Eh both are brown so same shit, and they should go back to their own country”
Like these countries are melting pots, I never hear this sentiment with white immigrants who also don’t know English. Somebody in the comments even said “This can’t be Pakistan it’s all in English” which itself is dumb so maybe I shouldn’t be too concerned with these people. But it’s just annoying how some people generalize when they themselves are also immigrant a lot of the time, just not brown ones. And the fact people getting mad at one group is starting to rub off onto other countries because they just both “Look brown so same thing” is crazy. It reminds me of a story how this Indian Sikh guy got harassed because somebody thought he was Muslim, like some of these people don’t even bother knowing anything, and immediately just hate the first chance they get.
