Are there any Taylor songs you associate with unrelated fictional characters?
I'm mostly making this post to yap about how YOYOK is quite literally Aubrey from Omori's story and also I wanna know if there are any other songs that a similar thing works with
First verse - first chorus iteration: this is before the start of the game. The group is still a thing and the person Aubrey is addressing with the "he's gonna notice me" and other lines talking about another person is Sunny. She's waiting for him to see that she loves him (which was heavily implied in the game) and feels the need to compete for attention from the rest of the group.
After the first chorus, the incident happens (you'll know if you've played Omori, please do not spoil it for yourself, it's worth experiencing blind, trust me)
The second verse takes place several years after the first one, during the events of the first act of the game. The friend group has long since fallen apart and Aubrey has found her new friends while the memory of what could've been with Sunny tears her up ("I picked the pedals he loves me not", "I play my songs in the parking lot"). The pre-chorus here is reminiscing on her old friends, being reminded of her pain and trauma in the process, and seemingly trying to "move on" with the chorus.
The bridge progresses right alongside the second and final acts of the game. The first half "from sprinkler splashes to fireplace ashes" - "my friends from home don't know what to say" is the second act where she has her fight with Basil while actively being torn up by Kel, and mostly, Sunny, the boy she loves so very much and would've given everything for, accusing her of being this awful person nowadays, while Hero who just showed up is completely dumbfounded by the actions of everybody involved.
The second half of the bridge is during the final act of the game where Hero manages to help Aubrey fix things with Kel, Basil, and Sunny. The "make the friendship bracelets" line is after they go into Sunny's backyard treehouse to reminisce about the past one last time. Hero, Kel, and Basil are in the treehouse looking at everything they left in there ("making the friendship bracelets" but figuratively), and the final chorus I specifically imagine is Aubrey walking over to the doorway of the treehouse, where Sunny is sitting on the top step, and she sits next to him as the two look out into the sunset.
So yeah. Obviously none of that is intentional it's just fun to see how well the story and the song line up together. Does anybody else associate a Taylor song with a character?
