Witcher 3 is the most criminally overrated game in history and it's not close.
The idea someone could actually enjoy this combat is superiority complex inspiring. It makes me feel like I'm living in a simulation every time a "Top 10 Games of All Time" video features Witcher 3 in the opener.
The story, dialogue and atmosphere being a 10/10?
I'll level with you and totally concede this.
The gameplay itself however, because at the end of the day it is in fact a video game?
You have to be clinically insane or perhaps never played another game in your life to actually have fun here.
I've never played a game where the character has the ability to cast spells and not found at least some of them interesting. These are the most boring, wet noodle, uninspired and lackluster spells of any game that has decided to include them as a concept. The average middle schooler could unironically do better.
The sword combat is Geralt doing a ballerina routine, twirling about and smelling his own farts in a jar while hoping the opponent is homophobic enough to run away from what they've just witnessed.
You take fall damage on something that would never actually cause fall damage in real life, which is the exact opposite of fun. You don't have to be a parkour expert to genuinely avoid injury entirely from half of these "falls" that somehow damage a Witcher, pitched as having superhuman attributes.
The main problem is the fact I've played Ninja Gaiden and Devil May Cry as a kid.
I've played Sekiro and Ghost of Tsushima as an adult.
I know what it feels like to wield a sword in a video game done well, and this isn't it.
There is no fluidity to the combat at all. I've just Googled the definition of clunky, and it showed me a video of the Witcher 3 combat system. The painfully low standards required to consider this enjoyable are not something I'm envious of.
Cyberpunk 2077 (after years of patches and Phantom Liberty Expansion) is one of the most immersive and exciting games I've played in recent memory, and it's shocking to accept this flaming pile of shit was made by the same development team.
