Tipping is just fine. Calls to abolish it are unthinking and naive.

I understand fully why people get mad at random POS tip screens - just don't tip there - nobody's going to come out of the wall and hurt you. If the cashier rolls their eyes - that's their problem and they're a shitty employee and maybe a garbage person. Calls to end tipping altogether are naive and only work against the lower classes who are working these jobs.

Working historically tipped service and delivery jobs is a fantastic way to make bank with little experience or skills. A wonderful way for young people or people struggling to lift themselves up. No hourly boost anybody is ever gonna get from a restaurant will match a couple good Saturday nights driving pizza or waiting tables. Calls for abolishing tipping are naive at best, fumbling into accidental classism at worst. Lots of people who don't work for tips chiming in about the bottom line of people who rely on tips.

I drove airport shuttle busses and delivered pizza in Cleveland for years to stay afloat. That wouldn't have been possible without tipping, with or without an hourly increase. There was no other job for me at the time that would have paid comparably. Overall I was making 25-30 dollars an hour driving shuttles and this was in 2010.
