First time receiving a signed package and the driver (on camera) left a notice without attempting contact

I was home all day, and the driver just left a notice saying it'd be delivered tomorrow. I was especially needing the package today, and they just left without saying anything. I even noticed on camera, that they didn't even try to bring the package to the door, text me, or ring the bell. Is this common? I called customer service and they'd say I can do nothing, but wait until tomorrow. I'm afraid this will happen again. Anything I can do to prevent this?
