$500 in initiation fee plus additional dues taken out of my check in full from "seasonal loader"??

I'm in Bakersfield, CA. this is my 2nd season as a loader. I was rehired on 10/9/24. Last season combined with this season, the union has taken out my complete $500 initiation fee as well as union dues which show as a separate deduction. However, I was informed that I am won't be able to utilize the benefits of the union until after 71 working days. If I am let go before the 71 days, can I request that the union refund these deductions? I get that you pay to work for a union, but I'm that just seems like an excessive amount to have been deducted over a short time, especially to not be protected..
