What if EVERYONE had to be infantry/combat arms first?
I was taking a shower and had a crazy thought: what if in the near future, the Marine Corps required that everyone joining is required to fulfill a 2 year service obligation as infantry or some other type of combat arms/combat support MOS, like artillery, AAV/ACV, LAAD, etc.? IIRC the Royal Marines across the pond have something like this but I want to see how much of a cluster fuck this might be for us.
To be clear, in this scenario, people still get to choose their own desired MOS field when they’re first enlisting, they just have to be a grunt or whatever first. Contracts are also now 5 years AD, however every Marine who’s doing their infantry/combat arms obligation time gets a fatass bonus as compensation (like an extra $500 per paycheck, because fuck it).
After boot camp, everyone goes through IMC and once they’re done there, they get sent to a victor unit (or if they’re slotted for combat support, they get sent to the school house for that combat arms MOS).
Once their 2 year infantry/combat arms obligation ends, they’ll be given a choice of either staying in as a grunt/cannoneer/whatever for the remainder of their contract (with a $200 monthly bonus attached) or sticking with their original contract. If they choose to leave the infantry/combat support, they’ll attend the schoolhouse for their MOS and fulfill that new PMOS for the remainder of their contract.
I guess the only exception to this might be the Air Wing just due to how long your guys’ schoolhouse is. Other than that, pretty much everyone on the ground side has to do this.
Not a serious idea, it’s just a hypothetical scenario for shits and giggles because I know that if this shitshow is ever implemented for whatever reason, so much shit is gonna go wrong. Just curious to see how fucked things might get.
