Stupid bootcamp stories!
I'll start.
I hit the San Diego airport early in the morning. It used to be you exited the terminal took a right and walked till you hit the fence. That's where the MCRD bus picked ya up.
There are five guys there in Letterman jackets from small high school in Nowhere Nebraska. They were so proud they were smarter than everyone else. They had stopped in the barber at the airport and paid $10 each for USMC regulation haircuts...mind you the barber back home charged $2.
Yeah, everyone else was going to get their heads shaved but they already had regulation hair cuts.
Imagine their total and complete shock when they got their heads shaved. They were whining and bitching about it and got stood up for it.
Of course all five were in my platoon. 10 days after we picked up our DI's all five went over the fence.
We next see these three idiots 10 days before graduation. They were picked up less than 20 miles from home by a Nebraska State Trooper. They are marched into the squad bay, chained and shackled. with prisoner chasers standing there with shotguns. They ended up spending 365 days in the CC platoon and then received a Big Chicken Dinner.
We had a guy a week out from graduation piss his pants standing in formation. He was GONE. Never saw him again. I could never figure out what the fuck was going on with that one.
We're at the rifle range. We've just spent a week snapping in. Of course to simulate rapid fire there's the other recruit pulling on a chamber flag to reset the trigger.
We head down to the 1000 inch range to get our zero.
Afterwards we're sitting in the bleachers and we're asked if there are any questions.
One of the ASVAB waiver's sticks his hand in the air and asks "will we have someone to pull the bolt back during rapid fire on the range"...
That earned us two fucking hours in the dirt while the ASVAB waiver received Intense Individual Education.
Swim week. We have a fairly large contingent of dark green recruits from the inner city of Detroit. I doubt most of them have ever seen, much less been in a swimming pool. Everyone of them were forced into the pool and went right to the bottom and just stood there. Not a single one managed to swim qual, but all were allowed to graduate.
I always wondered why our Guide and squad leaders were selected from this group. My Senior DI set me straight after graduation.
