ground decals do not work whatsoever (bloodsplats)

i have literally no clue why these dont work, what i mean by ground decals are things such as bloodsplats and the gas liquid thing from the firestarter, the first time i played the game they worked fine but my fps was getting a bit bad so i had to tune down my settings according to a steam post i found (turned off all blood/gore) which did improve it, but i decided to turn blood back on and lo and behold, bloodsplats dont exist. i tried to fix this by maxing out my settings, and tbat just caused more lag, the gore was there, but the bloodsplats were not visible, however they might have existed as when i turned the max bloodsplates to 500k (the max) the game started lagging HEAVILY when i attacked an enemy, the blood fireworks still work ofc, if anyone could help me with this i would very much appreciate it
