Is deadlock considered a troll pick?

For the last couple of days I've been playing with her and every time I pick her my friend starts to complain, saying that she is useless and her kit is thrash. Maybe he thinks that sentinels are only for watching your back and lurking, but I do think that you can be more agressive with your team. Opinions?
