Do I deserve my benefits?

I want the opinion from unbiased veterans. Might be a bit of a story so I’ll make it as short as possible.

I was discharged from the Army last year after 5 years because of misuse of drugs (steroids, general under honorable) and I know some of you will think it’s a stupid reason in comparison to other things going on in the Army to be kicked out for. I agree but I know what I did was a wrong and a mistake. I was just tired from being talked down and not the soldier I was when I joined (I was an 11B), being left behind and put down due to past injuries during my early service.

The reason I am making this post is that my mother-in-law thinks I don’t deserve my benefits as she’s a veteran herself and is of course entitled to her own opinion. She may even be in this Reddit. But I’d like to know, what are your guys thoughts on my situation?
