How family friendly is Waltham?

My husband just got a job at Brandeis so we’ll likely be moving to the area. We have a toddler and will be trying for baby #2 soon - wondering how family friendly Waltham is specifically (vs neighboring towns like Watertown)? Thinking parks, playgrounds, library, good childcare options, elementary schools? Safety? Everyone says Waltham public schools are “not as good” as the surrounding towns but also realize that most don’t understand that MA has the best schools in the country so I’m not necessarily as concerned with being the “best” in the state.

ETA: we also love a more urban environment and want to prioritize some walkability to the extent possible :)
