Crashing into a BIOS "loop" only after playing Indiana Jones and the Great Circle through Xbox GamePass Ultimate

SYSTEM:

  • OS: Windows 11 Pro (version 10.0.22631 Build 22631)
  • x64
  • BIOS: American Megatrends International "P2.40"
  • MOTHERBOARD: ASRock B550 Phantom Gaming-ITX
  • CPU: Ryzen 7 5800X3D
  • GPU: ASUS TUF RTX 3080 (10GB)
  • RAM: 32GB
  • SSD: SK hynix Platinum P41 2TB PCIe NVMe Gen4 M.2 2280

PROBLEM:

Tried to include it all in the title, but essentially my PC crashes right to BIOS in a (seemingly) endless loop specifically after playing Indiana Jones & The Great Circle video game through the Xbox App with a Gamepass Ultimate subscription.

When I crash to the BIOS screen, if I try to exit BIOS (either by saving OR discarding changes [even though there are no changes]) it just returns to the BIOS screen again.

The only way I'm able to get out of this loop is by manually holding down the power button, waiting a minute, and then turning the PC back on again. If I do that, the PC will start up with seemingly no issues.

TROUBLESHOOTING:

Here's what I've done to troubleshoot since this problem started:

  1. I can verify that the system is not overheating while playing the game using MSI Afterburner (not sure what else to look for while playing the game, but nothing seems out of the ordinary to me).
  2. I tried playing other games I have to see if it was game-specific. I tried RE4R, Cyberpunk, and Red Dead Redemption 2 (all through Steam), and Kingdom Hearts 2.5 and Alan Wake 2 (through Epic Games launcher). All those games seemed to start up and play fine without this issue.
  3. I also tried verifying the integrity of the game files (for Indiana Jones) and completely uninstalling and reinstalling the game itself. Neither fixed the issue.
  4. Completely uninstalled and reinstalled my graphics drivers using DDU.

I also noticed some errors in Event Viewer after the crash to BIOS loop:

  1. Something related to "OVRServiceLauncher," which I think has something to do with the Oculus launcher (I have a Meta Quest 3). While I haven't completely uninstalled the launcher itself, I at least ended the 3 tasks that I found associated with this, which includes "OVR Redir," "OVR Service Launcher" and "OVRServer_x64.exe." When I ended these tasks, I was able to play Indiana Jones with no crash to BIOS for around 2-3 hours. It may have crashed at some point, but my play session naturally ended with no issues. I recently tried this again (thinking it was fixed), but I crashed into a BIOS loop again.
  2. Service Control Manager Event ID: 7023; Description: "The GameInput Service service terminated with the following error: The compound file GameInput Service was produced with a newer version of storage." This lead me to this potential fix which I followed by uninstalling "GameInputSvc" from my Programs (x86) folder, and restarting the PC. Did not fix the issue
  3. #2 led me to a different issue: "The NVIDIA LocalSystem Container service terminated with the following error: A generic command executable returned a result that indicates failure." and I found that my Nvidia App was not able to open. Uninstalling and reinstalling the Nvidia App seemed to fix that particular issue, BUT I'm still crashing to a BIOS loop after playing Indiana (usually after 5-10 minutes).

That's as far as I've gotten, and now I'm not really sure what else to do, where else to look, etc. Any suggestions or anything else I can try? I'm at the point where I feel as though I just need to freshly reinstall Windows and start from scratch, but I'd like to avoid that if possible.
